Newcastle has been changed forever after pairs of blue denim jeans arrived in the city, replacing the ubiquitous grey trackie bottom.
Scenes of chaos gripped the city’s quayside area after residents gathered around a Levis aide truck.
Pairs of jeans were thrown out to the huddled masses who fought tooth and nail for the precious cargo.
However, Levis spokesperson Simone Simons was left confused after a second truck, full of denim jackets, was completely ignored by locals.
“The driver started chucking out these really nice denim jackets, totally free of charge, but it's almost like they couldn't see them. And it was bloody baltic outside.”
Sports companies Lonsdale and Umbro had successfully blocked denim for years by offering grey trackie bottoms for a pittance through Sports Direct, but now it seems like jeans will finally be the ‘in thing’ around the Toon.
The change, however, has not been unanimously beenwelcomed. Store detective William Waters has reservations.
“It'll be tougher to spot potential shoplifters.
"Before, I used to just scan for grey trackie bottoms teamed with a pair of Nike Air Vapourmax.
"Now it's a lot harder to profile poor people.”
